The Dufferin County Heritage Fair

On July 26th, the Dufferin County Museum and Archives hosted the Dufferin County Heritage Fair.

Featuring individuals from historical societies in and around our community who continue to work tirelessly to preserve our rich history, history buffs could meet and greet those with the historical answers to questions we all love to ask.

Representatives from the Shelburne Heritage Committee, the Dufferin County Forest, Friends of South Luther school, Grand Valley, The Mulmur Heritage Committee, and Dufferin County Museum and Archives themselves were offering access to historical information as well.

The keynote address from the Grey Roots Museum and Archives only added to the vast amount of historical knowledge and accessibility offered.

Fascinating information was available and Isabel Ireland of the Mulmur Heritage Committee had a lot to offer regarding the locally famous, Mansfield General Store.

Originally the General Store and Post Office, was owned by Hezekiah Gilbert. To find out more, contact Isabel Ireland at 705 435-1296 as the General Store has changed ownership several times over the years.

Representing the Town of Shelburne, The Shelburne Heritage Committee, in full presence reminding attendees of the Fair to try and make it out for one of the historic tours, find out about the Ghosts of Shelburne’s Town Hall, and many interesting facts regarding the Town of Shelburne’s rich history.

Also be sure to visit the Town of Shelburne’s official website, www.townofshelburne.on.ca where a very interesting documentation of Shelburne’s Main Street’s history can be enjoyed.
